Materials & Plating
What our Bijou Bliss piece is actually made of — and why it's built to last.
18K Gold PVD Plating
Most of our collection is finished in 18K gold PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) plating, sealed with a high-quality e-coating for extra durability. PVD is a modern plating process that bonds gold to the base metal far more securely than traditional plating methods, giving you a richer colour and longer-lasting shine.
- Waterproof and tarnish-resistant — designed for everyday wear, including light water exposure
- Nickel-free — comfortable for sensitive skin
- Long-lasting — more durable than standard gold plating, though like all plated jewellery, subtle wear can develop over time with frequent exposure to abrasive chemicals
Sterling Silver
Our sterling silver pieces are made from genuine .925 silver — a timeless, hypoallergenic choice with a naturally cool, bright finish. With basic care (see our Care Guide), sterling silver keeps its shine beautifully over time.
Mother of Pearl
A naturally iridescent material formed inside the shells of oysters, mother of pearl brings a soft, luminous glow to our pieces. Each piece is subtly unique, with natural variations in colour and pattern — no two are exactly alike.
Zircon & Stone
Many of our pieces feature cubic zircon — a brilliant, durable stone cut to mimic the sparkle of diamonds at a fraction of the cost. It's a popular choice in fine jewellery for its clarity and resistance to scratching.
A quick comparison
| Material | Best for | Care level |
|---|---|---|
| 18K Gold PVD Plating | Everyday wear, warm gold tones | Low — wipe after wear, avoid harsh chemicals |
| Sterling Silver | Classic, cool-toned pieces | Low — polish occasionally to prevent tarnish |
| Mother of Pearl | Soft, iridescent statement pieces | Medium — avoid prolonged water exposure |
| Zircon & Stone | Sparkle without the price tag | Low — avoid abrasive cleaning |
Keeping it all looking its best
Whatever the material, the basics stay the same: store it properly, keep it away from harsh chemicals and prolonged moisture, and give it a gentle wipe after wear. Full details in our Care Guide.

Care Instructions
Love It Right, Wear It Forever
Your Bijou Bliss pieces are made to be worn — every day, without a second thought. A little care goes a long way in keeping them looking as good as the day they arrived.
Storage
Store your pieces in their soft pouch or original packaging when you're not wearing them. Keeping jewellery separated (rather than tangled together in a drawer) also helps prevent scratches.
Cleaning
Give your jewellery a gentle clean with a soft, damp cloth or cotton bud and a touch of mild detergent to lift everyday dirt and oils. Avoid soaking pieces or scrubbing at stones and pearls.
What to avoid
Steer clear of harsh chemicals — cleaning products, chlorine, and strong perfumes applied directly can scratch or dull the finish over time. We also recommend being mindful when using perfumes, lotions, or entering saunas, as these can affect plating and finish with repeated exposure.
Polishing
Buff with a 100% cotton or microfibre cloth to bring back the shine and lift light surface marks. Avoid polishing cloths designed for solid gold or silver, as these can be too abrasive for plated finishes.
Everyday habits worth building
- Put your jewellery on last, after makeup, perfume, and hairspray
- Take it off before swimming, showering, exercising, or sleeping
- Wipe down with a soft cloth after wear before putting it away
A note on plating
Our jewellery is finished with 18K gold PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) plating and sealed with a high-quality e-coating for extra durability. It's designed to hold its shine with everyday wear, but like all plated jewellery, subtle wear can develop over time with frequent exposure to abrasive chemicals. For more detail, see our Material Guide.
